Soins et Finitions du Bois

Being a natural material, wood has an inherent delicacy and sensitivity that requires careful handling and periodic maintenance. Prolonged exposure to sunlight, in particular, can alter the vibrancy and appearance of wood. Ultraviolet (UV) rays present in sunlight pose a considerable risk, inducing discoloration, drying, and ultimately the formation of cracks or splits in the wood structure.

Interview

Wood is a porous material that constantly tries to retain and expel moisture depending on the environment it is placed in. While much has been done to prevent this, it is normal for wood to warp and change shape slightly. As a big fan of the look of warped wood, the majority of my work is intentionally slightly warped to add character to the piece. Never put your item in the dishwasher or submerge it under water as this can cause cracking and other damage to the wood. A damp cloth with natural soap is the easiest way to clean your wooden item.

If you want to keep your piece as close to new as possible, be sure to protect it from dents, scrapes, and scratches, and avoid exposure to liquids and heat. Certain foods can often leave stains or marks on certain woods, so be careful not to let your piece come into contact with foods known to stain easily.

If your piece starts to look dry or dull, try adding a little natural oil to give it a healthy look. Most readily available cooking oils can be used, such as linseed oil or grapeseed oil; however, mineral oil, hemp oil, or tung oil are better in the long run. Do not use olive oil. Do not use nut-based oils if you are allergic to nuts.

With reasonable care, your piece will last a long time, with each mark telling a story and adding character.

Finishes

At B2C Wood, from start to finish, I put my heart and soul into crafting my pieces, and this commitment to excellence permeates every facet of my manufacturing process. As the final step in the process, I use only the finest natural waxes and oils to give my creations a flawless finish. This attention to detail ensures that every little part of my creations not only meets, but exceeds, the strict standards to be certified food-safe.

I use:
- Several edible oils such as Danish Hampshire Sheen oil and OLI NATURA organic edible linseed oil
- A homemade blend, 50% organic beeswax / 50% organic carnauba wax

The choice of finish is decided when the piece is finished, according to its future use AND/OR according to the final rendering that I decide for my creation.

Please note that artistic and purely decorative creations with colored finishes are not intended for food use, although the surfaces are treated in the same way as my entire collection, the dyes used have not been tested for food use.
This is indicated in the product sheets.
